"COMMITMENT TO GREATNESS"

Woodlands Middle School believes in the value and great potential of our young people. In an ever changing society, it is our goal to create an educational environment that assists students in developing both socially and emotionally, to provide exploratory experiences in a variety of subject areas, to promote, support and enrich their academic growth and to increase their opportunities for the enhancement of their skills and talents.

Beginning in September 2003, Woodlands will be a Smaller Learning Communities School.  Our Middle School will consist of two teams: The H.A.I.S. Team: Humanities & International Studies and The M.A.S.T. Team: Math, Art, Science and Technology.  Our High School will feature The Freshman Success Academy in the ninth grade.  While grades ten through twelve will be divided into two smaller learning communities or Academies:  The Excelsior Academy wrapped around a humanities theme and the W.I.T.S Academy: Woodlands Inventors, Technicians and Scientists emphasizing a Technology, Business and Engineering theme. As we climb the ladder of success, there will be challenges, disappointments and successes. We must all work together to make positive differences! We all want to improve upon the quality of the lives of our students. We all want to make our school a better place in which to learn and to teach. Please stay involved in your child's education. There will be opportunities for you to participate in various activities. As your schedules will allow, please volunteer your services. It is our expectation that your children will come to school prepared to do their very best every day. We will expect every child to have self respect, to show respect for their peers and to show respect towards every adult in our building.Parents, please check to see that your child's homework is completed each evening. Please follow-up with staff on any concerns you may have. Visit your child's classes; attend programs and activities. Students need to see and hear us (home and school) engaged in meaningful conversations about the planning and implementation of programs.A great deal of social, emotional, and physical changes take place with our 11 - 14 year olds. These changes occur at different rates and in varying degrees.

If academic excellence and meaningful relationships are our goals, then it will take all of our collective efforts - home, school and community, working toward that end. We, as educators, are convinced that we cannot fulfill this task alone. I accept the challenge to be one of the key players in helping to bring about positive changes whenever and wherever I can. We need each other. I shall depend on your support.
