Description
If you are looking for a way to involve your students in poetry writing or for ways to share and improve your own work, Giggle Poetry may have just what you need. Their aim is to provide instructions and aid on how to teach humorous poetry to students in a fun and enjoyable way and to promote poetry among children. Students can rate poems that are written, create their own poems, and learn more about published poets. Once your class starts writing, you can have them publish their poems in the Poetry Contest. Just remember…the poems have to make us Giggle!

Classroom Integration
  • Create a class book of Giggle Poems: After students have played in the Poetry Fun section have them learn how to write poems in the Poetry Class site. Then watch as your students create their own poetry. Have them use either Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Student Writing Center to type out their poems with a partner. Then, have the students illustrate their poems. They can use markers or crayons or have them experiment with clipart or web-based images from the computer. Take a moment to bind the pages and place in the class library center.

  • Older students can do a similar activity but have them go to a younger student classroom to read their poetry aloud. You could also have them tape record the book and give it to a Kindergarten or 1st grade class to keep in the library.
