Readers PC Activities |
As reading and writing skills improve and
children move into word processing,
basic computing techniques are transferable from earlier experiences with PAINT
programs. These lessons are aimed at continuing and expanding familiar
processes though fun activities. |
| A
PRE-READER'S PC PRIMER |
A series of lessons and demonstrations using the
PAINT program appropriate for early childhood education. |
| A
PRE-READER'S PC PRIMER ..... Lines & Colors (Kdg) |
kindergartners learn basic schemes
of
computer processing, understanding not only WHAT happens from an action taken but also HOW
it does so. Using the simple PAINT program (from the Accessories folder in Windows 95 or
the similar PAINTBRUSH in DOS 3.1) Pre-readers learn methods which are transferable later
to word processing, spreadsheets, higher level graphics, etc. Mixing some
purposeful steps with a joyful, zany, random clicking would seem to be the "best of
both" computing worlds and certainly the thing kindergartners do best |
| A
PRE-READER'S PC PRIMER Dragging and Dropping |
Pre-readers have begun to learn number and
letter recognition and know maybe one word with spelling certainty - their own name. Using
this beginning knowledge they can learn the "'dragging & dropping' routine in the
PAINT program |
| A
PRE-READER'S PC PRIMER Copying and Pasting |
The ability to store graphics and text to a
computer's copyboard and then paste them over and over again expands dragging and dropping
text or pictures to many new exploits. This basic skill is so useful that there is no time
too soon to learn it and recognize ways to use it. |
