Character Education

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

In our uncertain and difficult times, it is the job of all adults to help children develop traits that will help them become strong, caring and productive citizens. At Waverly, we emphasize certain traits using a word of the month. Each month we come together as a school-wide community for an assembly. At this assembly, we say the Pledge of Allegiance, sing My Country Tis of Thee, and sing Happy Birthday to all who are celebrating birthdays that month. The principal, Carol Fisher, then reads a story that reflects the meaning of the word of the month. We end the assembly with our Waverly song. Throughout the month the meaning of the word is reinforced in each classroom.
