Sixth Grade: English
Language Arts Overview
This program is designed to strengthen language skills including reading, writing,
listening and speaking. Students become active learners as they utilize the
writing process for formal writing assignments, maintaining a journal and refining
their grammar, vocabulary and critical reading skills. Literacy skills are taught
through the use of novels and supplementary text. Core reading selections focus
on the themes of survival and legacies. Each quarter, students will have an
extending reading assignment in addition to their core reading.
