The Water World Project Water is a vital compound in the Earth's living and non-living systems. However, its water quality is slowly and subtly being degraded by man-made contaminants and pollutants. Consequently, everyone is responsible to help protect and conserve the Earth's water supply. The objectives of this project are the following:
Every 8th grade student will produce an original design of an public service advertisement (PSA) poster highlighting one water quality problem with a slogan. Two original posters from each class were sent to EcoWater Systems, to be entered into their World of Water Poster Contest. The students voted on which posters would represent each class. The poster designed by eighth graders Joe Tarsia and Dan Rinaldi represented the period 5 Regents Earth Science class. It then went on to the Local competition and Regional competition. In March 1997, their poster was voted as the 8th grade winner for the entire country by EcoWater Systems, representatives at their national convention. EcoWater Systems is based in St. Paul , Minnesota and is the oldest and largest manufacturer of residential water treatment equipment in the world. Joe and Dan won a total of $625 for their efforts. Their teacher, Mrs. Julie Hugick, also received $1500 for classroom materials. |
