Labor Eight - Round Up The Mares Of DiomedesFar to the north, there lived a king named Diomedes.
He was a very indignant king and trained his four mares to devour all strangers who came into the land. Eurytheus sent Hercules to capture the four man-eating mares and bring them back alive. When Hercules traveled north, he found Diomedes getting water from the river to give his mares a drink. He shoved Diomedes into the river and Diomedes drown. After Hercules was sure Diomedes was dead, he pulled him out of the river and fed his body to his own mares. After they were fed, they were calm and placid, so Hercules was able to drive them back to the gates of Mycenae with no problem. Hercules was now ready for the ninth labor.
