These posters are researched and constructed as group
projects for our eighth grade Health classes. Here, the students
share these eye-catching and instructive displays while relating
their experiences in preparing for the annual fair.

The eighth grade Health Fair project was overall
a great learning experience. We learned not only about our own
topic, but we learned how to work together. It was a long process.
It all started with picking our topic.
It was a difficult choice because there are so many interesting
topics to learn about. Once our topics and groups were decided,
our in-depth research began. Each group member had a job: Historian,
Problem Solver, Non-Profit Specialist and Statistician.
Using a
Web
Quest written by librarians Mrs. Afromsky and Mrs.
Ross, and
Health teachers Mrs. Salierno and Mrs.
Sokol, each of us researched
a specific part of the topic, using books, the Internet and community
organizations. We did most of our work in the Middle/High School
Library Media Center.
Our group goal was to take our topic, come up with
a lead statement (a startling statistic) and develop a possible
solution for our teen health issue. Once the research was completed,
it was time to start drafting out what would eventually go on our
show-board. Both Mrs. Salierno and Mrs.
Sokol edited our work as
we went along.
After everything
had been checked we were given the go-ahead to type and format
everything as it was to appear on the board. Pictures and colored
paper were added to make the board "pop."
Finally, each and every board (there were 51 of them)
were put into the Health Fair, displayed in the little gym for
everyone to see.
The Health Fair project was a great way to learn
about health issues that are important for teens to know about.
