What We Have to Say About SMART Boards

What I like best about my Smart Board is the ability to display any kind of text for my students. When I teach a reading or writing strategy I simply scan in the text I would like to use and display it in the Smart Notebook program. From there I can highlight different parts and write in the margins. The kids are glued to the screen. (Grade 5 Teacher) |
The Smart Board is an integral part of my work. I use it everyday and in every way possible. The kids love to use them and I cannot imagine my classroom without one. (Grade 7 Science Teacher) |
Smart Boards allow for the seamless integration of multimedia into any lesson. Students can quickly hear, view and better understand concepts taught in class. Smart Boards can be an excellent organizational tool for teachers. Lessons are easy to store and modify as needed. (Grade 6 Teacher) |
I have been using the Smart Board for almost every lesson I do. I have a morning message saved on the computer which I can just update quickly each morning. Also, I have the same thing for homework. Having homework on the Smart Board lets me print it out for any student who is absent or who have difficulty copying homework. When we do class work, I can make a printout of everything covered for students who are out of the room for band/orchestra or other services. The Fourth Grade teachers have scanned all of the math workbook pages and Daily Language which makes correcting work easier. And the list could go on and on....... (Grade 4 Teacher) |
For my visual learners it is a wonderful tool. All students are able to not only view various materials, but they can also interact with it. It saves so much time because all the information is stored and can be used over and over again. Through the use of Inspiration, students are able to use graphic organizers and outlining as a whole class experience. Because this generation is so computer and video-oriented, they love it and give it their full attention. (Grade 6 Teacher) |
What I like best about the Smart Board is the interactive learning that occurs with the students. It is a great hands-on tool that is very beneficial to our special needs, kinesthetic, auditory, and visual learners. (Elementary Special Education Teacher) |
I like the fact that I can scan worksheets so that they are large enough for the entire class to see. They also become interactive, so the children can come up and circle sight words in poems, word search puzzles, etc. I also like the Gallery features, such as the lined paper, clocks, etc. (Kindergarten Teacher) |
I really like the Smart Board because it is interactive and we can create lessons that correlate with our curriculum. (Kindergarten Teacher) |
I like my SMART Board because I can print out the notes for the day, plus brainstorms that the kids and I do together, for absent students and also for my own records. I also show quite a few movies which we write about critically, so being able to watch them on the "big screen" makes it easier for the kids to focus and for everyone to be able to see. It will also come in very handy when we start our WebQuest in the winter - I can guide the kids through it without leaving my classroom. (Grade 8 ELA Teacher) |
I feel the Smart Board motivates children to learn. It is especially beneficial to use during very dry (boring) lessons. It gives the children a chance to become active in the lesson. It is visually attractive. One way I incorporate the Smart Board into my curriculum is by posting words from our reading program and the children can highlight with their finger, the phonics strategy that I am teaching. I also use it during penmanship lessons. I can make a letter very large and this allows the children to come to the Smart Board and create the letter using gross motor skills. The Smart Board also is a resource I tap into often when I am teaching social studies and science. I utilize United Streaming videos for these lessons. (Grade 1 Teacher) |
The Smart Board allows students to be completely engaged in your lesson! The interactive component is a huge part of it. I have never seen students so excited about finding coordinates in math, play a round of Jeopardy! based on a read aloud, or editing paragraphs! It is fantastic. (Grade 5 Teacher) |
I use the Smart Board to teach handwriting every day. I use the large lined paper, model the letter, and have the children come up to do the same. I use it like a chalkboard, to model all my important lessons. Also, I use United Streaming to show movies. (Grade 1 Teacher) |
What I like best about the Smart Board is the ability to integrate notes and the most current web sites available. I frequently use animations to illustrate difficult concepts in biology. On a recent AP Biology exam almost every student gave a perfect description of the structure and function of the Sodium-Potassium Pump in the cell membrane. This is a complex process that often confuses students. I realized that it was the animations they viewed that made the information so clear in their minds. Also, you've watched the class learn using interactive physiology CDs. They are active participants and it's fun. I really want to learn how to use the additional capabilities of the board. But even with my limited knowledge it has been a great advantage in my classes. My notes are there, if a student is absent I can print them out. (High School Biology Teacher) |
I love knowing and being able to reach more students due to those who learn better through visual prompting or modeling. (Second Grade Teacher) |
I use the SmartBoard to arrange data and have the students come to the board and create their own best fit lines. The board allows for several lines drawn at once. We can move them ever so slightly vertically and horizontally if needed, rearrange the slope, or completely move off the view for a short time. Comparisons are easier, no smudges (like with overheads). You can zoom into certain parts for more accurate measurement too. Of course, you can always recall the exact lesson the next day to review or complete! (Grade 8 Math Teacher) |
I feel that the use of the Smartboard as an instructional tool is not only motivating to all students, but provides the visual and kinesthetic learner with a tool that assists them with their learning. (Elementary Principal) |
What I like most about the Smartboard is that my students seem more engaged. The kids I work with frequently have obstacles that interfere with their learning. The visuals and the interactive nature of the medium really helps them focus. The variety of sources available at my finger tips (video, audio, word docs other materials) help me to differentiate lessons and to present the content in a variety of ways. It also allows me to make my lessons more student-centered. It also provides instant notes (a boon for special ed teachers who may have students in their classes that have "copy of class notes" on their IEP)! (High School Special Education Teacher) |
