Did you know that most of the children's movies that you enjoy originated as popular children's books? Good books make good movies. Read the book before the movie comes out!

--------------------------------------- Kit Kittredge, An American Girl This movie is based on the character from the American Girl books, which are kept in 3+. The movie opens on July 2, 2008. ------------------------------------ City of Ember This book was written by Jeanne DuPrau, and is one of a trilogy which also includes People of Sparks and Prophet of Yonwood. Come check it out. The movie will open October 10, 2008.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, being released on November 8, 2008.
Inkheart This movie is based on the Cornelia Funke book of the same title. This is HIGH FANTASY. I saw a trailer for the movie today. There is an opening date of
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is being turned in to 2 films. Part 1 will be released in 2010.

Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian This movie is another in the series that includes The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. The book's title is Prince Caspian. Come check it out. This movie opened May 16, 2008. The next movie in the series will be The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Nim's Island This movie is based on a book by Wendy Orr. Come check it out. The movie opened on April 4, 2008.
The Water Horse, Legend of the Deep This movie is based on a novel by Dick King-Smith, one of my favorite authors for 4th graders who generally writes fantasy books about animals of all kinds. ------------------------------- The Dark is Rising This movie is based on one of the Susan Cooper books from the fantasy series that includes The Grey King, The Dark is Rising, Silver in the Tree, Greenwitch, and Over Sea, Under Stone . The series is considered a classic and a must-read for 5th graders or older students. Come check it out in the library. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, based on the book by J.K. Rowling. You really should read the books in order. Then go back to the movie. It's fun to see what was left out! Nancy Drew, based on the character from the Carolyn Keane stories.
The Spiderwick Chronicles This movie, based on the books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black hit theatres on Feb. 14, 2008. You'll love the books! (They left book #4 out of the movie!)
