All students at Anne Hutchinson School have general music class once each week for 45 minutes. Students explore the fundamentals of music through singing, playing classroom instruments, learning to read and write musical notation, and discovering many styles and genres of music.
2nd grade- Folk songs, audience/ listening skills, ear training, Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals, improvisation on instruments, and the presentation of a 2nd grade play in the Spring. 3rd Grade- Instrument families, notation of music, singing and ear training, playing the recorder, Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, and the presentation of a recorder concert in June. 4th grade- Musical vocabulary, conducting, New York composers, Native American songs, notation of music, singing and ear training, Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, and Mozart's The Magic Flute. 5th grade- Jazz and Blues, Patriotic songs, Listening Journal, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Moussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, singing and ear training, and the DARE and Commencement songs. Chorus-All 4th and 5th grade students may join chorus. This group meets for rehearsal every Thursday morning from 7:45-8:30am and sometimes during recess. Chorus is an opportunity to further develop singing and ensemble skills and learn a wide variety of songs. The Chorus performs at both the Winter and Spring concerts. |
