Programs for 2006-2007

Sexual Abuse and Abduction Prevention

The Good Touches/Bad Touches Program is a New York State mandated program for children in elementary school.   The counselor visits each classroom throughout the year to talk about “stranger danger”, ways to deal with uncomfortable situations and safety precautions.   Discussion topics include adults that children can trust, safe behaviors and stranger awareness.

In addition to this series of lessons, Mrs. Levine will

work with teachers and visit classes to determine

additional program needs.

2nd through 5th Grade Programs

Mrs. Levine goes into each grade level on a rotating basis and discusses issues that concern elementary school children.

Topics that are addressed include friendship, bullying, conflict resolution, peer pressure and respecting differences.   Children are given an opportunity to role-play a variety of scenarios in order to practice the skills learned in the lesson-- with the goal of transferring these techniques in real life situations.

Social Skills/Peer Mentor Program

There are students who may have difficulty making friends

and who may benefit from peer models who exhibit

appropriate social behaviors.

Students are chosen for this program based on classroom observation and teacher recommendations.   Peer mentors

are trained and supervised by teachers, counselor and the

speech and language teacher.
