Arts

The Arts in Eastchester are supported by a dedicated and resourceful staff of teachers.

In the Middle and High School, Cultural Arts grants provided by the District are available to bring teaching artists into the classroom to study works of art with their guidance. Each year the schools hire independent visual and literary artists, musicians and dance choreographers through BOCES Arts-In-Education program.

Additionally, the Middle and High Schools participate in the Lincoln Center Institute program, which features performances at Lincoln Center and a residency in the classroom with their Teaching artists.

Selections from this year's Jazz Co performance, which is the District's School Dance Company, performed for its seventeenth season this year. They are very proud to have been strong members of the performing arts in the community, and to have maintained professional, high-quality performances each year. This season, Jazz Co showcased works by ten New York City and Westchester choreographers and numerous student choreographers. The Company consists of 115 students in grades 9-12.

Also this year the High School was fortunate to be the recipient of a grant from the New York Academy of Figurative Art in which a program, called "Go Figure," worked with the Advanced Art Students in an intensive figure drawing program led by a graduate from the Academy. All instruction, model fees and cost of materials were provided by this generous grant. In addition the Academy funded an evening course for select students from Eastchester, Yonkers and Bronxville at the Academy.

The Arts Festival is an excellent way to see the enthusiasm and accomplishments of staff and students involved in the Arts. By showcasing the work each year, the community is able to see the tremendous impact these programs have on the educational development. of children.
