Directions:
For this part of the test, you will listen to a speech about the author's plea for an end to indifference in the new millenium and write a response based on the situation described below. You will hear the speech twice. You may take notes on the next page anytime you wish during the readings.
| The Situation: Your English class is discussing the theme of "man's inhumanity to man" in literature and in life. You have been asked to write an essay about Elie Wiesel's experience during the Holocaust and his view of atrocities in the 20th century. In preparation for writing your essay, you will listen to a speech by Wiesel at the White House in April, 99. Use relevant information from the narrative to write your essay. |
Your Task:
Write an essay for your English class in which you use relevant information from the speech to explain Wiesel's appeal for an end to human indifference to others' suffering.
