Directions:

For this part of the test, you will listen to a speech about preserving the First Ammendment, answer some multiple choice questions and write a response based on the situation described below. You will hear the speech twice. You may take notes on the next page anytime you wish during the readings.

The Situation:

Your class has been discussing the importance of preserving the First Amendment and its impact on censorship. You have been asked to write an essay about the author and his response to hose who have tried to censor his book.

In preparation for writing your essay, you will listen to a speech by Ray Bradbury about the censorship of his book. Then use relevant information from the narrative to write your essay.

Your Task:

Write an essay for your English teacher in which you use relevant information from the narrative to explain how censorship can endanger the First Amendment and thr right to read.

Guidelines:

Tell your audience what they need to know about Ray Bradbury and explain the impact of censorship on the First Amendment.
Use specific, accurate and relevant information from the speech to support your discussion.
Use a tone and level of language appropriate for an essay for an English class.
Organize your ideas in a logical and coherent manner.
Be sure to indicate any words taken directly from the narrative by using quotation marks or referring to the author.
Follow the conventions of standard written English.
