Procedures:
- Previous lessons: Strategies/ Techniques on note taking and essay writing
- Motivation: Has anybody seen or heard of the movie Roots?
- Write some of the responses of the students on the board, using a web format.
- Review vocabulary words on the board to enhance understanding of the passage to be read.
- Tell students they will now listen to a passage, keeping in mind key ideas.
- Listen to the passage a second time and take notes. Specify to students to recall
the possible technique for note taking .
- Listen to passage a third time and reflect on notes while writing new information.
- Hand out multiple choice questions. Read them over with students.
- Answer these multiple choice questions to the best of your ability
- Keep in mind vocabulary words and your notes
- Hand out paper, and instruct students to answer the following questions in a form of an
essay. Remind them to read over notes and look at the multiple choice questions to elicit
ideas for their writing.
- Facilitate by walking around the room reinforce confidence and certain writing
techniques. (Do not collect any materials until after the closure for student reference)
- Close the lesson by going back to your web and ask students the same question you
started with, "Now has anybody seen or heard of the movie /book Roots" ? and add
why was it made? Remind students about their notes, questions, and writing.
- H.W. see if you can find out more about your ancestors. Talk to members of your family.
See if you can find pictures or photographs of your ancestors. Use this information to
write a short story history of your family .
