Southern Westchester BOCES is 1,200 men and women who
serve the school districts of our region with dedication and imagination.
From the 86 year-old welding instructor who shares his lifetime of skills
and experience with adult learners to the teacher of the hearing impaired
who teaches skills to youngsters that will last them a lifetime, each BOCES
employee works in a collaborative spirit with each other and with the schools
and school districts requesting our services.
At its annual reorganization meeting held in July, the Southern
Westchester BOCES Board of Education officially welcomed District
Superintendent Ronald L. Smalls and incumbent members who were elected
to new terms.
OUR MISSION IS "To collaborate with districts, agencies
and communities to meet their educational challenges by providing regional
leadership and cost effective, high quality services." Take a look at
our introduction to BOCES manual:
In 1948, the New York State Commissioner of Education
and the Board of Regents established The Southern Westchester Board of
Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) to provide shared educational
and management services to schools and school districts in our geographic
region.
From those beginnings, Southern Westchester BOCES has
grown to offer more than 100 cooperative, cost effective services to the
35 school districts in the region, which consists of 187 schools; 104,000
students and more than 650,000 adults who live and work here.
