The Edwards Williams School offers
an integrated curriculum to meet the needs of all 525 students.
To accomplish this goal, in addition to a principal and assistant
principal, there are twenty-seven classroom teachers, four special
subject teachers (music, art, gym, and media), ten teaching assistants,
four reading specialists, a math teacher, a guidance counselor and
a full-time nurse. Our part-time staff includes a gym teacher, band
instructor, ESL and resource room teacher, psychologist, special
education counselor and speech clinician. The school encompasses
Pre-K through grade six, plus four special education classes and
a resource room for regular education students with special needs.
Williams School accommodates children from a dozen homeless shelters.
Daily classroom instruction is offered to meet each child's intellectual,
physical, cultural, emotional and social development. In addition
to regular classroom instruction, Williams School offers remedial
instruction, both in and outside the classroom in the areas of reading
and math. The Reading
Recovery program is in its second year of implementation in
the first grade. This year, one of our sixth grades is a special
education inclusion class.
The Community Schools Program links the school with the parents
and offers a wide variety of services to both students and parents.
Parent workshops, summer programs for children, outreach services
with community agencies are a few of the Community Schools activities.
