The Middle School After-School Club/Activities Program
Buses will depart the Middle School at approximately 3:55 PM. Three activity buses will be available at AMS to accommodate the students who participate in after-school programs. Since this is not the normal schedule, please make sure your child knows his/her bus stop and bus number. A bus schedule is attached for your information. If students do no follow school rules, parents will be notified. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Holland, the Assistant Principal, at 914-693-7564 ext. 2503. Buses are ONLY available to students who are eligible to ride the bus during the day! Important: Any student who is not registered to participate in an after-school program will be dismissed at the usual time and may not remain on school grounds, or ride the late buses home. We cannot supervise students that are not registered in an after-school program. Note: these clubs are separate from the After School Program with Mr. Beames. Book Club Grades 5-8 Tuesday 2:45-3:45PM We will read a book a month chosen by the students and Library Media Specialist. A variety of genres will be examined and discussed. After we complete each book we will put together reviews that will be available at the Ardsley Middle School Library for other students to use. Circle of Friends Grades 5-8 Tuesday Circle of Friends is a service oriented club whose goal is to create an inclusive environment at AMS. Students will plan and implement social events and activities designed to provide students with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to socialize with non-disabled peers. Students will also engage in fund-raising and disability awareness activities.
The direction of the Computer Club will depend on the interests of the students involved. It will be moderated by Mrs. May. This is an opportunity for the students to find out what computers can do for them. Community Service Club Grades 5-8 Thursday The AMS community service club will be dedicated to finding ways to serve others in our school, our community, and the world. We will participate in service projects, charity fundraisers, and events to raise awareness of the needs of people around us. Musical Productions Grades 5-8 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday The 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade musical will take place in March. Auditions will be held in November with rehearsal following on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Rehearsals will run from 3:00-5:00 PM and students are responsible for their own transportation home. You will be notified in the "Blue" Newsletter when auditions will begin. Newspaper Club - The Cougar Grades 5-8 Tuesday The newspaper club will meet to give editors and reporters time to develop "The Cougar." Participants will work on developing their articles from newsgathering to final copy. Homework Help Grades 5-8 Tuesday, Thursday, Friday The after-school study skills program will provide help with homework. Students can utilize the library facilities to work on reports and other assignments; work in a quiet area to study for tests and quizzes, as well as practice specific test-taking and study skills with a trained professional. SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Thursdays SADD is dedicated to students helping students make positive decisions about challenges in their everyday life and to promote alcohol and drug free lives among young people. Students deliver education and prevention messages to their peers through school and community wide activities. Students will be able to plan and implement activities for the various awareness months/weeks such as Substance Abuse Awareness Month, Red Ribbon Week, Great American Smoke-out, National Drunk-Drugged Driving Awareness Month, etc. Please note: The Student Assistance Counselor is now here everyday. She will eventually be here only two days. When she is here fewer days, the day of the SADD club meetings may change. Yearbook 8th grade only Thursday The yearbook club is open to 8th graders only. We will be choosing photos, arranging pictures, writing blurbs and more. The activities listed are in addition to the Apogee (literary magazine), Student Council, Math Teams, Science Olympiad Team and an intramural sports program for fifth through eighth grades, which will be offered in the spring.
