Ardsley High School
"Guidance Post-Its" for May 2008
Seniors - "It's not over until it's over."
The deposit has gone in and you are now admitted to your college choice.
Congratulations! But, you are not done.
Remember these items:
- The acceptance to your college was based on successful completion
of senior year. Do not jeopardize your acceptance or be placed on probation
because of your senior year grades.
- AP exams are being administered during the first two weeks in May.
Make sure you send these scores to your college.
- Guidance will be giving you a form listing all of the schools to which
you applied. It is very important to fill this form out accurately and
indicate the results of your application. You also need to indicate
the college you will be attending so that a final transcript can be
sent. We incorporate this information into a database and use it as
a counseling tool for future classes.
- If you have been "wait listed" at a college and your intent
is to enroll if accepted, write, call or visit the admissions office
to state your intentions and ask if there is anything more you can do
to strengthen your application. Recent evidence of notable academic
or other achievements could help.
- Thank all the people who have helped and supported you! It does take
a village!
Test Prep at Little or No Cost
Careful preparation for the SAT and/or ACT can result in a substantial
increase in your final score. While many students chose to take a test
prep, these courses usually carry a hefty price tag. Individual tutoring
also shows good results, but again, the cost can be substantial. Families
need to determine the best way for their child to prepare, considering
cost among other factors. Here are some additional test prep options-ways
you can get ready for admissions tests at little or no cost.
All students should start by getting, and carefully reading a copy of
the free test bulletins produced by the College Board (SAT) and/or ACT.
The bulletins include test-taking tips, strategies, and test information.
The bulletins are available at our school's guidance office. Also, get
a copy of the sample test and complete it at home under simulated test
conditions. Free on-line practice is also available on the web at the
College Board site
and the ACT site.
