Text Box: Third Graders “See, Hear, Feel, Film”

The third grade students visited the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville twice this school year-once in the fall and once in the spring. During their visits, the students learned about critical viewing skills and the techniques of telling a story through film. While at the Film Center, the students were encouraged to combine creative expression with storytelling skills. The curriculum consisted of viewing short movies from around the world, and Text Box: participating in writing exercises and imaginative group work.
After the first visit, each student received a JBFC Film Journal. This is a special notebook for the students. This notebook is a great outlet for creative writing. The students can write their reactions to movies or movie critiques. In addition, this notebook can be used for creating stories, plays, or even movie scripts. Who knows? Perhaps one day you will see a movie created by one of Concord Road’s very own third Text Box: graders!
This is the fifth year that the third grade students have had the opportunity to visit the Jacob Burns Film Center. Our participation in this program would not be possible without the annual support from the PTA. The third grade teachers would like to thank the PTA for their support of this program.
It has been a wonderful experience for the third grade students.
