Care Packages for our Troops

The 100th Day of school is almost here and we will again make care packages for our troops overseas. Last year we filled 100 boxes with over 3000 items. Each box was filled to the brim. This year many other grades will be getting involved in this wonderful project. If you would like to volunteer your time to be a part of a Parent Care Package Committee, please email Jill Rogovic at RogovicJ@ardsleyschools.org. During the first few weeks of February, you will help Mrs. Rogovic tape boxes and help other grades sort/distribute items. You will also help get the care packages ready for shipping. The 100th Day of school will be the week of February 11th. More information will come home as we get closer. Thanks for your support!

                                                   Science Fair Changes This Year!

Mrs. Feldbaum and Mrs. Zucchetto have observed over the past few years that while the K, 1st and 2nd graders’ Science Fair remains an exciting family-rich learning opportunity, the science fair for the upper grades has lost a sense of purpose.  In lieu of the Science Fair format for our third and fourth graders this year, the Science Department will offer them a new program called the Big Idea Team Challenge. In this program, our third and fourth graders will work in small science teams to complete an investigation and apply scientific inquiry skills to complete their Big Idea Team Challenge project. These projects will be done in conjunction with the Library and Technology Departments and all work will be done in school. Mrs. Feldbaum will update the primary grades with information about this year’s Science Fair and Mrs. Zucchetto will keep you informed about the progress of the new program we are piloting for the upper grades.  Both activities will occur in the spring.

STARLAB

In December, stellar excitement was all around the Science Labs as our students had the opportunity to visit the ever-popular STARLAB! Concord Road students in all grades observed the night sky in the comfort of our very special indoor planetarium. Take advantage of the enthusiasm inspired by the STARLAB and encourage your child to read books about stars. Make plans for a family outing to visit a planetarium or dust off the telescopes and look up to observe Orion, Canis Major and Canis Minor and the Winter Triangle that is formed within these constellations. Enjoy the Winter Sky!
