Text Box: Dear Families,
Welcome to February—a month with many fun, purposeful events for our students!
Our children will be busy for two very important and worthy causes. On February 7th, we celebrate our annual Jump Rope For Heart. The energy level will run high for this spirited event.
On February 12th, we celebrate the 100th day of school. Always a fun day filled with counting, Text Box: sorting, and collecting. This year our second graders will participate in a much more serious 100 activity. They will be packing 100 Care Packages for our troops in Iraq! We are very proud of this effort.
Our 3rd and 4th graders will be taking a practice Math test in anticipation of the March Math testing dates. The practice gives our students a chance to familiarize themselves with the format of the test.
Text Box: We all also look forward to the week-long vacation and some anticipation of snow to enjoy on our days off. We would like to remind you to dress your children warmly for school each morning. It is our hope to get outdoors on most days to enjoy some fresh air and expend some energy. So please remember hats and gloves along with a warm jacket.

   See you at school,
         Margaret and Layne
Text Box: In light of the recent situation in Missouri, this article will be dedicated to reviewing recommendations for keeping our children safe. When hearing a story of abduction, a parent’s first response is to hold little ones close, out of harms way. However, it is equally as important to take proactive precautions because safety starts with learning how to recognize dangerous situations and how to avoid them. Thus, Text Box: below are some key points to review with your children:
* Discuss, “what is a stranger?” Explain that it is someone we do not know anything about. This should then be a segue to helping a child understand that they should never talk to strangers.
* State that no child should get into anyone’s car/truck/van without permission of his/her parent.
Text Box: * Children should not accept anything from a stranger, be it candy, money, a pet, toy etc.
* Explain that NO adult should be asking any young person for directions or help.
* Communicate at all times who will pick up your child from school, play dates, etc. Let your children know that we use a code word system at school for this purpose to keep them safe.
