Should I Stay Home if...?

Parents often ask, “When should my child remain at home?” Health Office guidelines are as follows…

A child should remain at home if…..

  • There is any fever. A child is considered to have fever if their temperature is over 99.9 degrees. Children should remain at home until they are 24 hours fever free.
  • There are any signs or symptoms of gastroenteritis (vomiting and/or diarrhea).
  • There has been a diagnosis of strep throat or scarlet fever. A child must be on antibiotics for a full 48 hours before returning to school.
  • There are signs of head lice. A child must remain home until the shampoo treatment for head lice has been accomplished and no live specimens are found in a thorough combing of the hair.

If your child is going to be absent or late for any reason, please be sure to call Mrs. Loiacono in the attendance office (693-7513 or 693-7510 ext. 2322) before 9:00 AM to report the reason for his/her absence or lateness. Please call the attendance office even if you have notified the teacher. You may call any time day or night and leave a message on the attendance office voice mail. Messages are retrieved by 8:30 AM every morning.
