CRS offers students a myriad of opportunities to extend and enrich their learning in different areas of the curriculum…. Young Inventors Program Third and fourth grade students interested in this national competition need to take a qualifying exam. The top ten scoring students in third as well as fourth grade are offered an opportunity to meet weekly with Mrs. Fran Zucchetto, program advisor. We now participate in the Invent America competition. This national competition requires students to design and build an original tool or to apply their scientific knowledge and skills to the improvement of an existing tool. An accompanying log that depicts and documents the creative process must also be submitted. The completed entries are reviewed and one entry from each level will be submitted to the competition. Science Fair Open to all students K-2, our Science Fair takes place each April on two (2) evenings. Student work is available during the day for peers to review and explore. Look for information from Mrs. Feldbaum in February. Math Olympiad/Continental Math League The second and third grade students participate in the Continental Math League contest. The contest has three tests that are given in January, February, and March. All students are invited to participate. We also have a fourth grade Math Olympiad Club, which meets once a week after school. There are five Olympiad tests that are given from November to March. The club is geared to those students who enjoy the challenge of solving very difficult math problems. Geography Olympiad The Geography Olympiad is a national challenge offered to all students in grades 2 - 4 each year, during the spring. Any child is allowed to participate. The contest consists of a multiple choice format, geared towards demonstrating the student’s knowledge about geography. Each child receives a reward for participating and one child per grade will receive a medal for the most correct answers. Health Fair The Concord Road School Health Fair is held in March for third and fourth grade students. Many parent and local volunteers from health care professions participate in preparing two 40 minute presentations in their field of expertise. These presentations have included Safe Kids, Fire Safety, and Emergency Medical Services by Ardsley Police Department, Fire Department, and Ambulance Corps members. Substance abuse resistance, nutrition, dental hygiene, nursing, and many more topics are also covered at the fair.
