Briana Scurry
"It's
a save!" Briana was the goalkeeper for the U.S. Women's Soccer Team from
1994-1999. She was considered the best U.S. goalkeeper of all time. She was born
September 7, 1971 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is the youngest of 9 children.
She has three older brothers and 5 older sister. When Briana was young her mom
taught her that she could do whatever she wanted to do. Her mother helped her
fit-in in whatever sport she played. Because of what her mother told her she
always felt she would fit in. In 4th and 5th grade she liked to play
football, floor hockey, soccer, basketball and track. When Briana was older she
decided to go to The University of Massachusetts. In college she studied
political science. She also played goalkeeper on their soccer team and was named
National Goalkeeper of the Year. Briana was the reason for the win over China in
World Cup '99 when she saved a goal on one of the penalty kicks. Briana didn't
get as much credit as Brandi Chastain for winning the World Cup but I think she
should have!
