Donna Karan
The famous fashion designer, Donna Karan, was born on October 2, 1948 in Queens, N.Y. She grew up on Long Island, which is also in NY, with her step-father and mother. Donna’s real name was Donna Faske but then she married Mark Karan. Her step-father was a tailor and her mother was a model so she wanted Donna to train for fashion at Parson’s School of Design. Donna only stayed there for 2 years. As assistant designer, Anne Klein & Co. she lunched Anne Klein 2 diffusion line in 1988. She is the designer of Donna Karan New York (DKNY), in 1985. She introduced DKNY for men in 1991; Donna Karan Beauty Company, fragrance and cosmetic division, New York, in 1992. She also introduced lingerie and children’s line, DKNY Kids, from 1992. She took the company public in 1996. In 1999 introduced DKNY swimwear and Donna Karan Home in 2000.
Donna Karan also won awards like Coty American Fashion Critics Award in 1977, 1981, 1984, and 1985, Fashion Footwear Association of New York award in 1988, Council of Fashion Designers of America Award in 1985, 1986, 1990, 1992 and 1996. Donna Karan has an honorary degree, Bachelor of Fine Arts, from Parson’s School of Design in 1987.
