Roberta Flack
Roberta Flack was born on February 10, 1939 in Asheville, North Carolina. She was born into a musical family. She won a scholarship to Howard University when she was only 15. Roberta graduated from Howard University with a B.A. in music. She was discovered singing and playing jazz in a Washington nightclub by pianist Less McCann, who recommended her to Atlantic Records. Her first major hit was First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, recorded in 1969. It became a huge hit. It was part of an album called First Take. The album won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1972. Some of her other hit songs were Where Is The Love? in 1972, with Donny Hathaway, and Killing Me Softly with His Song in 1973. Both won her Grammy Awards. Young people are hearing her songs again because the Fugees re-recorded her smash song, Killing Me Softly with his Song. Roberta is still singing, touring, and recording. Her voice is calm and smooth! We like hearing her voice a lot!
