Bill Clinton
By Gabe and Sotiri

Did you know that our President was the second President to be impeached? It happened because he lied to officials about having an affair. This interesting president, Bill Clinton, was born on August 19, 1946 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His father, William Blythe was killed in a car crash before he was born. His mother, Virginia Cassidy Blythe, later on married his stepfather, Roger Clinton. As a kid, his favorite subject in school was mathematics. He was a popular kid in school and got good grades. He attended a Roman Catholic School for two years and then went to a public school. He went to college at Georgetown  University in Washington, D.C. He went to Yale University Law School after going to Oxford University for two years. Bill Clinton met Hillary Rodham at Yale. She joined Clinton on the law school faculty at the University of Arkansas in 1974, and they were married on October 11, 1975. Their daughter, Chelsea Victoria Clinton, was born on February 27, 1980.

Before he was a President, he was a professor at the University of Arkansas Law School. In 1978, Bill Clinton ran against David Pryor for Governor of Arkansas and won effortlessly. He received sixty percent of the vote against four opponents in the Democratic primary election and sixty three percent against the Republican candidate, Lynn Lowe, in the general election. At the age of 32, he became one of the youngest governors in US history.

In fall of 1993, Bill Clinton defeated George Bush and was elected President of the United States. Clinton, a Democrat, picked Al Gore as his Vice-Presidential running mate. Clinton won the election with forty three percent of the popular vote. George Bush received thirty eight percent.

Bill Clinton appointed more women and minorities to major departments than any other president. They include Attorney General Janet Reno, the first woman to hold that office, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy, Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown and Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala.

Unfortunately, in 1998 Bill Clinton had an affair with Monica Lewinsky. At first he denied it, but later on they had proof and he admitted that he did. There were many hearings and trials to find out if he lied, and finally they found out. After that, they had (again) many trials and hearings to decide if he should be impeached.

Bill Clinton had to make difficult decisions during his Presidency regarding bloody conflicts in Rwanda, Somalia, Bosnia, and Haiti. There were also more problems with the civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. But, Clinton started to make peace with Haiti.

Bill Clinton is the forty-second president. He has made many mistakes but also, many good choices. Bill Clinton accomplished many things. He has many good things about him, but also, some bad things. Maybe our next president will make better choices.
