J.D.R. was born in Richford, NY. July 8, 1839. Then John's family moved to a farm in Moravia, NY. Then when John was almost 7 he was taking care of wild turkeys to sell. When John was 16 he was hired by Hewitt and Tuttle. After a few years of work at Hewitt and Tuttle, he and his friend made up their own company called Clark and Rockefeller. At their company they sold commodities. In 1865, John and a man named Samuel Andrews bought out John's business partners for $72,000. They ended up buying an oil refinery and it was the biggest oil refinery in Cleveland. He named his oil business The Standard Oil Company of Ohio. He gave a lot of money to schools and other charities. John D. Rockefeller died on May 23, in Ormond Beach, Florida at the age of 97.
