Dear Members of Congress,
I, George Washington, say that The Articles of Confederation are failing to make our country strong. These articles are failing because of three reasons. Congress cannot carry out laws which make us not be able to trade or have any power. They cannot collect taxes which mean we cannot repay our debts to France and pay our soldiers. Also every one is printing there own money that costs different values in different places. All these reasons are making other countries hope we will fail. I would like you to amend the Articles of Confederation so we can develop at strong nation.
Congress cannot carry out laws which make us not be able to trade or have any power. To carry out laws you need 9 out of 13 states to approve. We also cannot trade because the Articles of Confederation can’t put out a law for trade. The worse part is that there is no executive branch, to carry out the law and a judicial branch, to interpret the laws, but you cannot send any law out at all with out these branches.
The Articles of Confederation do not allow Congress to collect taxes either. They cannot collect taxes which mean we cannot repay our debts to France and pay our solders. Worse that they cannot pay France because France helped us a lot in the Revolutionary war, You should realize soldiers are getting mad for not being paid for fighting in the Revolutionary War. Farmers are getting mad also because they have to pay for all their land, this is how Shay’s rebellion started.
Every one is printing there own money that costs different values in different places. Congress has way too much worthless money that has different values in different states. This was very confusing to many people This is a problem because we cannot get money to put in new land on the country and add different jobs.
To ask, if you do not want to fix these laws you can have thirteen countries instead of one whole country. Also, every state will have control of everything. To fix this I recommend you should start from scratch, get all the same money that costs the same value in different places so no one will be puzzled. Also put in an executive branch to send out laws and a judicial to interpret the laws. After you do these improvements, the states will be a one united country.
