OCCUPATIONAL
EDUCATION The
Center for Career Services, Southern Westchester BOCES
(Grades 11-12) The Center for Career Services at 65
Grasslands Road, Valhalla, New York offers a program of occupational education
designed to prepare students for gainful employment as skilled technicians.
Many students who graduate from these programs continue their education
and receive college credits through articulation agreements that have been
arranged with several two-year and four-year colleges and technical institutes. Students may begin a program in
their junior or senior year. They
attend The Center for a half-day, either in the AM or PM, and remain in their
high school for the remaining part of the day.
They can receive 4 credits for each year in attendance.
Seniors entering a two-year program will have to pay tuition if they wish
to continue and complete the program as post-graduates. New York State proficiency exams
will be required of all occupational education students, including a state
examination in Introduction to Occupations.
The following academic courses are available at The Center for Career
Services (as a pullout, if necessary) to fulfill graduation requirements.
Introduction to Occupations American
History
English 10 Government
English 11 Economics
English 12 Sequential
Math 1
Global Studies
Sequential Math 2 Transportation All students must travel to the
campus via bus transportation provided by the school.
Students are not permitted to drive cars to The Center without special
permission from parents and the high school administration. Job
Placement Job Placement Counselors on campus
specialize in securing employment and internships.
They work closely with industry and trade unions to assist students in
locating jobs and entering apprentice programs. College
Placement Guidance counselors at The Center
work closely with the counselors at the high school to assist students in
finding the best college to meet their needs.
College credits are available for many of the programs through
articulation agreements with various colleges and technical institutions.
