The transition from childhood to adolescence
is a challenging time. Interested in exploring and learning about many
different areas while developing an increasing ability to deal with
complex concepts, middle school students are also concerned with social
interaction and peer acceptance. Within the Middle School's structured,
nurturing environment, each student is
offered opportunities to develop and practice personal responsibility,
accountability, initiative, and respect for others.
Recognizing and understanding the needs of
the middle school student, staff provide for social growth in an
appropriate and supportive environment while implementing a rigorous
curriculum. Students are exposed to many academic disciplines. Annually,
the Middle Schools performance on the English/Language Arts assessment
test is among the best in the state.
In addition to the strong academic program
offered at the Middle School, needs and abilities of students are met
through special education classes and accelerated programs. A Social and
Emotional Learning program teaches students how to acknowledge their
feelings, manage their emotions, delay impulses, be sensitive to others
and consider their peers' perspectives. Students are challenged to
explore, investigate and reach conclusions with the confidence that they
will be supported in all endeavors. The enthusiasm of the Middle School
students is evident by their participation in many co-curricular and
extra-curricular activities including:
