A Word from the President of the Board of Education

When I recently read that Money Magazine had listed Eastchester as one of the most desirable places to live, I chuckled to myself. As an Eastchester resident for the last 22 years, I have known that secret for a long, long time. All of the things that the Magazine said were true– we have beautiful parks and fields, our own country club, excellent schools, a great location, and a feeling of small town community spirit.

I recently attended the Homecoming celebration and the Eastchester-Nyack football game at the new Town field at Haindl Park. What a demonstration it was of all of the qualities Eastchester represents— community spirit, collaboration between the town and the school, supportive families, and those wonderful children who represent our future.

These qualities are all the same qualities that made me want to be a member of the School Board 11 years ago, and make me so proud to be its President today. As I go out in the world, I love to tell people that I am part of the process that makes Eastchester the wonderful place that it is. And yet, it is a huge responsibility. As our town continues to mature and grow in population, we have to ensure that it never loses those characteristics that make it so special. We have to make sure that we take care of our children, and that the schools provide them with all of the space and tools that they need for the future. It is up to all of us, who share that secret about the wonders of Eastchester, to work together to plan for tomorrow.

Respectfully,

Michelle Simon Kissel
